On the back of heavy profit booking across the board, the sensex on Wednesday ended below 8800 points after surging past 9,000 points in the early trading.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) 30-share sensitive index today opened strong and traded at around 9,000 level for most part of the trading session. However, the widespread profit booking in the afternoon session, pulled the sensex down by over 250 points in the intra-day trading.
The benchmark index slipped from intra-day high of 9,033 levels to close at 8,788.81, marking a loss of 142.35 points or 1.6 percent over the previous closing.
