Continental Airlines Thursday became the first carrier to launch a non-stop service between India and the US by linking New Delhi and New York City with daily flights.“Continental is making history again today by linking these two great nations with non-stop flights for the first time,” said Jeffery Smisek, the US carrier’s president, who travelled to Delhi on the inaugural eastbound flight.
“The launch of this service shows how globalisation is creating new opportunities for travel and trade,” he said at an event, attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and US Ambassador to India David Mulford.
Continental officials said the flights cut travel time between the two cities by over two-and-a-half hours and will significantly shorten existing journey times between to most US mainland cities from India.
